How to kick ass using social media
By Pao García
In the podcast world, precisely in the financial podcast world in spanish, there is a mexican guy I have been following for a while, his name is Moris Dieck , and he knows what he does. He talks about money and educate us “the regular mortals” about finances, debt, bills, taxes and whatever has to do with economic issues. Last week’s episode was about, guess what? yea, LinkedIn, and not being so sure if I was ready to listen to a one hour conversation that had to do with social media; my finger was very close to pick another episode, but for some reason I decided to give it a try, if the content wouldn’t do it’s job after 5 minutes, I could pick another episode so, why not to give it a try?
The co-host was a girl that actually works there, at LinkedIn, she got her job because someone took a look at her resume directly in the app; what I totally ignore was the fact that this is the perfect way to tell the world who you are, what you do, the experience you’ve gained, which are your preferences in a professional way and above all, get the right connections. By using this professional app in the right way you can reach anyone in the business world, people will start noticing you, giving you the chance to achieve professional goals, besides, there are courses you can enroll in if you have the pro membership that can help building the perfect portfolio, in order to reach each one of your objectives.
Benchmarking is another LinkedIn advantage because you will always find someone willing to help you out, whether is brainstorming, answering questions, sharing experience or just giving a piece of advice, experts from different companies are sharing their knowledge; or maybe before an important interview, you might want to dig in your leads life, hobbies, jobs, etc…
Listening to that episode was an eye opening experience for me, it made me value how much time I have been wasting by not working on my profile; definitely it's a must on my list. I’ll let you know how much my life improves after I create my profile.
Do you have an upgraded CV ? How has that helped you?
