5 things you should know before turning 40
As many of you know, I turned 40 years old. Contrary to facing the existential crisis that many talk about, I have reflected on the good things I have learned as I reach my fourth decade of life. And in this article I share with you what are those 5 important things that you should know before turning 40.
SLEEP IS IMPORTANT
After staying up late for long work days, few hours of sleep after becoming a mother, and the consequences that this has had on my physical and mental health, today I tell you, sleeping at least 8 hours a day is of vital importance.
FIND AND MAINTAIN AN EXERCISE ROUTINE YOU ENJOY
Yeap, gaining weight never worried me in my life until after I turned 35. It's as if by magic my system doesn't digest food the same way, my knees hurt and it's harder for me to get up, and some of the consecuences of not challenging our body are getting sleepy during the day, the extra pounds start to come off and most importantly, the decline of our physical health. Therefore, don't wait until you turn 40, start looking for a physical activity that you like now and turn it into a routine. You will thank me.
DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AND NOT WHAT GIVES YOU MONEY
When we are younger we dream of professional success, and for many years I translated into job promotions, a raise, pats on the back and people telling me “good job.” But today, after many professional decisions I have made, ups and downs, I can tell you that, the most important thing is to enjoy what we do, because this represents a third part of our life time, yes, we spend a third of our life working. Start by not caring so much what others think of you, and finding ways to do what makes you happy.
SAVE FOR YOUR RETIREMENT
Yes, when we reach 40 we need to have a clear plan of what we will be doing with our life when we retire, when we can no longer work or depend on our body and mind like we do now. It sounds very strong but at this point in our lives we know that our younger years are behind.
INVEST IN PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Human beings by nature are social souls, and when we reach 40 we realize that it is very difficult to be alone. Therefore, dedicate more time to your family, friends and people who fill you with positive energy. Now I would like to know, what have you learned at whatever age you are at right now?
