The FIFA World Cup 2026 officially arrived in North Texas this weekend, and if the energy we witnessed is any indication, Dallas-Fort Worth is ready to welcome the world.

From packed stadiums and passionate supporters to community celebrations across the Metroplex, the opening weekend delivered everything soccer fans could hope for: excitement, culture, emotion, and unforgettable memories.

Netherlands vs. Japan Delivers a World-Class Show

The weekend's headline match at Dallas Stadium in Arlington featured a thrilling Group Stage showdown between the Netherlands and Japan. Fans from around the world filled the stadium as two of international soccer's most respected programs battled to a dramatic 2-2 draw. The match featured late-game heroics, nonstop action, and a vibrant atmosphere that showcased why the FIFA World Cup remains the world's biggest sporting event.

Outside the stadium, thousands of Dutch supporters transformed Arlington into a sea of orange during the traditional fan walk. The famous "Orange Army" marched toward the stadium singing, dancing, waving flags, and creating one of the most colorful spectacles of the tournament so far. Their energy mixed with fans from Japan and dozens of other countries, creating a celebration that felt truly global.

The FIFA Fan Festival™ Dallas Becomes the Heart of the Celebration

While matches captured the world's attention, Fair Park became the gathering place for fans throughout the weekend.

The FIFA Fan Festival™ Dallas officially welcomed visitors to a one-million-square-foot celebration featuring giant viewing screens, live match broadcasts, interactive experiences, entertainment, food, music, and family-friendly activities. The free event runs through July 19 and can accommodate up to 35,000 visitors at a time.

Families, friends, and visitors from around the world came together to celebrate the beautiful game regardless of nationality. The atmosphere reflected the spirit of the World Cup itself: a global community united through soccer.

Dallas Is Hosting More Matches Than Any Other City

North Texas will host nine FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, more than any other host city in the tournament, including a semifinal. The region also serves as home to the International Broadcast Center, making Dallas-Fort Worth one of the most important hubs of the entire World Cup.
