Dallas From Above: Experiencing Reunion Tower With Family Visiting From Mexico

For nearly 20 years, my brother Manuel has called Dallas home. He has driven past its skyline countless times and seen the city’s iconic glowing “ball” from almost every direction, yet he had never actually visited Reunion Tower.
Sometimes we become so busy with work, family and everyday responsibilities that we postpone exploring the landmarks in our own city. We tell ourselves, “Algún día voy a ir,” and somehow, the years pass.
That “someday” finally arrived when my brother Ricardo, his wife and my little nephew came to visit us from Mexico. Their trip gave us the perfect excuse to slow down, gather the family and experience Dallas from an entirely different perspective.
Why Reunion Tower Is a Dallas Must
Standing 561 feet tall, Reunion Tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Dallas skyline. Its GeO-Deck observation level sits 470 feet above the city and offers panoramic 360-degree views of downtown Dallas and the surrounding area.
From above, familiar highways, buildings and neighborhoods suddenly look completely different. The experience is especially meaningful when you are sharing it with someone seeing Dallas for the first time.
For multigenerational families, Reunion Tower is easy to enjoy together. Children can explore the interactive displays and high-definition zoom cameras, while adults can identify landmarks, take photographs and simply appreciate the view. Visitors can remain inside the climate-controlled observation area or step onto the outdoor deck and feel the breeze high above the city.
It is touristy in the best possible way: memorable, unmistakably Dallas and accessible to almost every generation.
An Unexpected Wildlife Encounter Above Dallas
One of the sweetest surprises during our visit was a presentation by Wildlife on the Move.
The family-friendly program introduced us to fascinating animals while teaching us more about wildlife and the natural world around us. The children were able to see the animals up close, gently touch some of them and pose for photographs.
Fue una experiencia súper linda. Watching the children’s curiosity and excitement made an already special family outing even more memorable.

Four Things to Know Before Visiting Reunion Tower
1. Choose your time carefully
The Dallas skyline is beautiful at any hour, but every time of day creates a different experience. Daytime provides clearer views of the city and surrounding communities, while sunset adds warm colors and the chance to watch downtown begin to light up.
For visitors who want both perspectives, Reunion Tower offers a Day + Night Ticket, allowing a second visit within 24 hours of the first. Because sunset and weekend time slots may be popular, purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.
2. The experience includes more than the view
Admission provides access to the GeO-Deck, including its indoor and outdoor observation areas. Visitors can use interactive displays, telescopes and high-definition cameras to explore Dallas landmarks from above.
A digital photo experience is also included, giving families another way to preserve the memory of their visit.
3. Check the calendar for special programming
Reunion Tower hosts seasonal and family-focused activities throughout the year. Depending on the date, visitors may find wildlife encounters, magic performances, arts and crafts, music, yoga or other special events.
Some activities are included with general admission, while others may require a separate ticket. Review the official hours and events calendar before choosing your date.
4. Plan for parking and changing hours
Reunion Tower’s operating hours vary by season and special events, and the final elevator departs 30 minutes before closing. The attraction is generally open throughout the year except on Christmas Day.
Visitor self-parking is available at 601 Sports Street, a short walk from the tower. Reunion Tower’s official pages currently show inconsistent parking prices, listing either $10 or $15 for up to four hours, so confirm the amount on its parking and directions page before arriving. Accessible parking is available through the Hyatt Regency valet area at 300 Reunion Tower Boulevard.
A Reminder to Explore Your Own City
The most meaningful part of our visit was not only seeing Dallas from 470 feet above the ground. It was experiencing it together.
My brother Manuel had lived here for almost two decades without visiting one of the city’s most famous attractions. Our family’s arrival from Mexico finally gave us the reason to say, “Ahora sí, vamos.”
Reunion Tower is an excellent destination for first-time visitors, families with children, grandparents, couples and even longtime Dallas residents who have always wondered what the city looks like from inside “the ball.”
Sometimes it takes someone visiting from far away to remind us that memorable experiences may be waiting just a few miles from home.
