If you're searching for a truly memorable experience in North Texas, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie offers something far beyond a typical weekend outing. This is not just an event, it’s a fully immersive world where history, fantasy, and entertainment come together.
As a Latina who has attended the festival for more than a decade, I can say with confidence that each year brings something new. It continues to evolve, surprise, and create moments that stay with you long after you leave. In fact, on a more personal note, one of my very first dates with my now husband happened here, proof that the festival is just as perfect for romance as it is for families and groups of friends.
An Experience Unlike Any Other
From the moment you walk through the gates, you are transported to a 16th-century English village. The attention to detail is remarkable, from costumed performers to artisan markets and themed architecture.
Visitors can expect live jousting tournaments, dozens of stages featuring music, comedy, and theatrical performances, and a wide variety of handcrafted goods. The culinary offerings are just as memorable, with everything from traditional fare to indulgent festival favorite, I love the turkey legs!
The experience is highly interactive. Performers engage with guests throughout the day, making you feel like part of the story rather than just an observer.
Shows and Performances You Can’t Miss
Among the many highlights of the Scarborough Renaissance Festival, the live shows stand out for their variety and energy. Signature performances include the full-combat Jousting Tournament, held multiple times a day, where armored knights clash on horseback, as well as the renowned Birds of Prey Exhibition, an impressive falconry show featuring hawks, falcons, and owls in flight. Visitors can also explore immersive attractions like the Mermaid Lagoon, along with a wide range of stage acts that rotate throughout the day, from comedic performers and musicians to circus-style entertainment. Fan-favorite acts often include whip demonstrations like Adam Crack’s Fire Whip Show, theatrical comedy such as Cirque du Sewer, and musical performances like The Toasted Clover, all contributing to a dynamic schedule across more than 20 stages.
The festival runs on weekends and Memorial Day Monday from April 4 through May 25, 2026, giving visitors a limited spring window to experience one of Texas’ most immersive and entertaining events.

Five Recommendations Before You Go
After years of experience, a few practical tips can make a significant difference:
First, wear comfortable shoes. The festival grounds are large, and you will spend hours walking.
Second, plan to stay at least four hours. There is far more to see and do than most first-time visitors expect.
Third, be prepared for the Texas weather. Sunscreen, hats, and hydration are essential, especially on warmer days.
Fourth, embrace the spirit of the festival through your attire. Creative costumes enhance the experience and allow you to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere.
Finally, if you don’t have a costume, there’s no need to worry. Rentals and purchases are available onsite.
