10 Fun Facts About Moulin Rouge! The Musical

The Moulin Rouge of Paris, a symbol of celebration of Paris since 1889, is a world icon that we all dream of visiting at some point in our lives. My husband Dustin and I had the opportunity to go during our honeymoon in 2019 and it exceeded our expectations.

But you don't need to travel to Paris, Moulin Rouge! The Musical comes to Dallas from March 15-April 2, 2023 at Fair Park Music Hall, brought to you by Broadway Dallas. And here are 10 Fun Facts About Moulin Rouge! The Musical that I am sure you did not know and will impress you.

Let's start with a little history

Paris, France, 1899. Christian, a young American arrives in Paris hoping to start a successful career as a writer. In Paris, he meets the bohemians Toulouse-Lautrec and Santiago who tell him that he should write a musical which he later called "Spectacular, Spectacular" so that they could present it in a famous cabaret, the Moulin Rouge. But as soon as he visited the club, Christian immediately saw Satine, the most beautiful and shining star of Moulin Rouge and falls in love with her. After a short time, Satine falls in love with Christian too.

On the other hand, the businessman owner of Moulin Rouge Harold Zidler asks a rich Duke to invest a large amount of money in the cabaret to save it from ruin. The Duke agreed on the ONLY condition of having Satine’s love. And in this tangled love triangle, Satine also develops a terrible illness which progressively worsens throughout the story making the love story even more complicated.

Now that you know a little more about the story, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is based on the 2001 film directed by Baz Luhrmann and co-written by Craig Pearce. Now transformed to Broadway, Moulin Rouge! The Musical communicates the sensuality and intensity of the story on a musical theater stage. Written by Mark Peiker, this play is put together thanks to the efforts of many very talented people and here I will tell you just a few of the curious facts about this play.
