Pia Lara Namdar on Discipline, Identity & Life After Sports

By Ana Cruz Hollingsworth - Founder & Chief Editor

This week's episode of The Ana Cruz Show was recorded inside the professional podcast studios at The Star in Frisco, home to the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and Training Facility, through a special collaboration with Visit Frisco. As Frisco continues to establish itself as one of America's premier sports destinations, bringing together world-class venues, professional teams, and major international events, there couldn't have been a more fitting place to sit down with my dear friend Pia Lara Namdarto talk about leadership, discipline, and the lifelong impact of sports.

What does it really take to become an elite athlete?

Is talent enough, or is discipline the true difference-maker? Pia's remarkable journey began as a young competitive swimmer in Mexico and eventually led her to become the Head Coach of the SMU Swimming & Diving program in Dallas. Her story is a powerful reminder that consistent discipline, resilience, and hard work can create opportunities far beyond the pool.

In this episode, Pia shares the lessons that most people never see behind athletic success. We discuss the sacrifices, relentless training, mental toughness, setbacks, and daily habits that shape high-performing athletes. We also explore a challenge many athletes quietly face: the identity shock that often comes when a competitive career ends. Having witnessed this firsthand, Pia founded Adelante Texas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping athletes successfully navigate the transition into their next chapter, and elevate latina’s in Texas. Today, she continues to champion women in sports as the owner of Lone Star Texas SC, a women's semi-professional indoor soccer team, creating opportunities for future generations while empowering athletes to lead with confidence both on and off the field.

Whether you're an athlete, coach, parent, entrepreneur, or simply someone pursuing your next big goal, this conversation offers practical wisdom and lasting inspiration. Pia Lara Namdar's journey demonstrates that discipline creates opportunities, resilience builds character, and purpose extends far beyond any finish line. Listen to this week's episode of The Ana Cruz Show to discover what it truly takes to succeed, reinvent yourself, and keep moving forward. If this episode inspires you, be sure to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who could benefit from Pia's remarkable story.
