TINA - The Tina Turner Musical comes to Broadway Dallas
I have many reasons to admire Tina Turner's music and life, the main ones being her incomparable talent and her inspiring story.
Tina Turner took control of her life and career and inspired many of us to fight for our dreams, and that no matter our age or our past, it is always a good time to start over.
Tina is a music icon, a pioneer in the women empowerment movement and one of the best rock singers of all time. Something that I personally love were her sexy outfits and her dance movements - choreographed or improvised - that allude to her unstoppable force, a complete artist who shook people at their core and inspired not one, but several generations.
Well, what can we say about her musical achievements. In her 50's Tina was the female face of Pepsi, she had also won eight Grammy Awards, had acted in the third part of Mad Max with Mel Gibson, and Michael Jackson had chosen her as one of the main voices of We Are The World in 1985.
That woman who was on the verge of giving up on several occasions, grabbed strength wherever she could and triumphed through adversity to be admired by singers like David Bowie, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton and with whom she made duets that are now part of music history.
In 1988, she achieved the Guinness Record (only shared with Paul McCartney), being the only soloists capable of filling the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, with more than 180,000 attendees in a single night. Songs like The Best, Steamy Windows, I Don't Wanna Lose You and the central theme of the film Goldeneye, from the James Bond saga, made the singer one of the most popular in the world.
But I won't tell you more, I’d rather invite you to relive her energy, her story and her talent in TINA – The Tina Turner Musical.
You can enjoy it from January 23 to February 4 at the Fair Park Music Hall, brought to you by Broadway Dallas and Broadway Across America (BAA).
The North American cast is led by Ari Groover, Parris Lewis and also stars Deon Releford-Lee as Ike Turner, Roz White as Zelma Bullock, Wydetta Carter as Great Georgeanna and Sarah Bockel as Rhonda.
Produced by Stage Entertainment, James L. Nederlander and Tali Pelman, in association with Tina Turner, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical was written by Tony Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins.
I'm super excited to go and enjoy Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, and I hope you are too.
